English Translation

Slok Mahalla 3rd ( Nanak Naam Na Chetni )
Nanak! The foolish, blind, and ignorant persons do not recite the True Name of the Lord but are engrossed in the love of the worldly falsehood (Maya) and then function accordingly. (with whims and fancies). Such persons are taken by the Yama (god of death) bound in chains, and then face many punishments in the dungeon (filth) of hell, at the hands of Yama.

Mahalla 3rd: O Nanak! The persons, who serve the True Guru, are received with honor in the Lord’s court and are a personification of Truth. Such persons have attained salvation, having been emancipated from the cycle of births and deaths, by reciting the True Name of the Lord. (2)

Pauri: This worldly wealth and possessions, which human beings continue amassing in this life, finally are the source and cause of our ills and sufferings. All the palatial buildings and material wealth which we continue amassing, do not accompany us at the end of this life. (to the next world). All the horses (or elephants) that we rear (keep) in this life (with great care and pride) are not of any avail in the end. O, dear friends! Let us recite the Lord’s True Name by imbibing its love in the heart, as this alone would accompany us after death, and would be helpful. O Nanak! The Guru-minded persons who have recited the Lord’s True Name, in the company of the holy saints, (Guru), enjoy the bliss of life. (15)

सलोक मः ३ ॥ नानक नाम न चेतनी अज्ञानी अंधुले अवरे करम कमाहि ॥ जम दर बधे मारीअहि फिर विसटा माहि पचाहि ॥१॥ मः ३ ॥ नानक सतगुर सेवहि आपणा से जन सचे परवाण ॥ हर कै नाए समाए रहे चूका आवण जाण ॥२॥ पौड़ी॥ धन सम्पै माया संचीऐ अंते दुखदाई ॥ घर मंदर महल सवारीअहि किछ साथ न जाई ॥ हर रंगी तुरे नित पालीअहि कितै काम न आई ॥ जन लावहु चित हर नाम सियों अंत होए सखाई ॥ जन नानक नाम ध्याएया गुरमुख सुख पाई ॥१५॥

Hukamnama Translation in Hindi

श्लोक महला ३ । ( Nanak Naam Na Chetni ) हे नानक! अज्ञानी एवं अन्धे व्यक्ति परमात्मा के नाम को याद नहीं करते अपितु अन्य ही कर्म करते रहते हैं। ऐसे व्यक्ति यम के द्वार पर बंधे हुए बहुत दण्ड भोगते हैं और अन्त में वे विष्ठा में ही नष्ट हो जाते हैं ॥१॥

महला ३॥ हे नानक ! जो अपने सतगुरु की सेवा करते हैं, वही सत्यशील एवं प्रामाणिक हैं। ऐसे सत्यवादी पुरुष हरि-नाम में ही समाए रहते हैं और उनका जीवन एवं मृत्यु का चक्र समाप्त हो जाता है॥२॥

पौड़ी ॥ धन, सम्पति एवं माया के पदार्थों को संचित करना अंत में बड़ा दुखदायक बन जाता है। घर, मन्दिर एवं महलों को संवारा जाता है, लेकिन उनमें से कोई भी इन्सान के साथ नहीं जाता। मनुष्य अनेक रंगों के कुशल घोड़ों को नित्य पालता है परन्तु वे भी अंत में किसी काम नहीं आते हे भक्तजनो ! अपना चित हरि-नाम में लगाओ, वही अंत में सहायक होगा। नानक ने गुरु के सान्निध्य में नाम का ही ध्यान किया है, जिसके फलस्वरूप उसे सुख प्राप्त हो गया है॥१५॥

Translation in Punjabi

ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ( Nanak Naam Na Chetni )
ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
(ਸਿੱਟਾ ਇਹ ਨਿਕਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿ) ਜਮ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਬੱਧੇ ਮਾਰ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਫਿਰ (ਵਿਕਾਰ-ਰੂਪ) ਵਿਸ਼ਟੇ ਵਿਚ ਸੜਦੇ ਹਨ।੧।
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੱਚੇ ਤੇ ਕਬੂਲ ਹਨ;
ਉਹ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਜੰਮਣਾ ਮਰਣਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੨।

ਧਨ, ਦੌਲਤ ਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਇਕੱਠੀ ਕਰੀਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਅਖ਼ੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ;
ਘਰ, ਮੰਦਰ ਤੇ ਮਹਿਲ ਬਣਾਈਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਕੁਝ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ;
ਕਈ ਰੰਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਘੋੜੇ ਸਦਾ ਪਾਲੀਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੇ।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ਸੱਜਣੋ! ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜੋ, ਜੋ ਅਖ਼ੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਥੀ ਬਣੇ।
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੧੫।
