English Translation

Sorath Mahala – 5th (Maya Moh Magan Andhiyare )

The foolish self-willed person has forgotten the Lordbenefactor, being engrossed in the love of the worldly falsehood and the darkness of ignorance. Such a person takes the credit for all his upbringing due to his own strength, while forsaking the Lord-Creator who has bestowed this life and strength on him. (1)

O, foolish mind! The True Master is watching all your actions (doings) and is in the know of all those acts committed by you in hiding, as nothing is hidden from the Lord who is omniscient. (Pause) This foolish man is engrossed in the love of worldly pleasures, greed, and egoism, which has given birth to many vices and sinful actions. O, fool! You have suffered through many forms of life in the cycle of births and deaths, being bound in the chains of worldly bondage. (2)

O, Man! Whatever sinful actions you have committed in the company of another person’s wife, under closed doors and in great hiding, (secrecy) are known to the Lord. When the assistants, Chitra & Gupt, of the god of justice, would ask you to account for your actions, then who will cover up Your sins? (3)

O, perfect Lord-benefactor, destroyer of our sufferings! I have no other support except You. O, Nanak! May the Lord enable me to cross this ocean of life successfully, as I have sought His support only. (4-15-26)

Punjabi Translation

ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨ! (Maya Moh Magan Andhiyare ) ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਕਰਤੂਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਵੇਖ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਤੂੰ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, (ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਉਹੀ ਉਹੀ ਜਾਣ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਤੇਰੀ) ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਕਰਤੂਤ ਲੁਕੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦੀ।ਰਹਾਉ।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਜਿੰਦ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਸਭ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਜੀਵ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਂਦਾ। ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਹਨੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਵੱਡੀ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ।੧।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜੀਭ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦਾਂ ਵਿਚ, ਲੋਭ ਦੇ ਨਸ਼ੇ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੀਆਂ ਜ਼ੰਜੀਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਭਾਰ ਹੇਠ ਦਬ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਬਹੁਤ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਦੁੱਖ ਸਹਾਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।੨।

(ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ੇ ਬੰਦ ਕਰਕੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਪਰਦਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਪਰਾਈ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨਾਲ ਕੁਕਰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜਦੋਂ (ਧਰਮ ਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਦੂਤ) ਚਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਪਤ (ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਕਰਤੂਤਾਂ ਦਾ) ਹਿਸਾਬ ਮੰਗਣਗੇ, ਤਦੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਕਰਤੂਤਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕੇਗਾ।੩।

ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ-) ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ! ਹੇ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਆਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ। ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ (ਡੁੱਬਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਬਾਂਹ ਫੜ ਕੇ) ਕੱਢ ਲੈ।੪।੧੫।੨੬।

Hindi Translation

सोरठि महला ५ ॥ (Maya Moh Magan Andhiyare ) माया-मोह के अन्धेरे में मग्न होकर मनुष्य सब कुछ देने वाले दाता को नहीं जानता। वह उसे नहीं जानता, जिसने प्राण एवं शरीर की सृजना करके उसकी रचना की है और जो शक्ति उसके भीतर है, वह उसे ही अपना मानता है॥ १॥

हे विमूढ़ मन! स्वामी-प्रभु तेरे कर्मों को देख रहा है। जो कुछ तू करता है, वह सब जानता है और कुछ भी उससे छिपा नहीं रह सकता ॥ रहाउ॥ जिव्हा के स्वाद एवं लालच के नशे में मदमस्त व्यक्ति के अन्दर अनेक पाप-विकार ही उत्पन्न होते हैं। अहंत्प के बन्धनों के बोझ के निचे अनेक योनियों में भटकता हुआ वह बहुत दुःख भोगता है॥ २॥

द्वार बन्द करके एवं अनेक पदों के भीतर मनुष्य पराई नारी के साथ भोग-विलास करता है। लेकिन जब चित्रगुप्त तुझसे कर्मों का लेखा मांगेगा तो तेरे कुकर्मों पर कौन पर्दा डालेगा ?॥ ३॥

हे दीनदयालु! सर्वव्यापी! दुःखनाशक! तेरे अलावा मेरा कोई सहारा नहीं है। हे प्रभु ! नानक ने तेरी ही शरण ली है, इसीलिए उसे संसार-सागर में से बाहर निकाल लो॥ ४॥ १५ ॥ २६ ॥
