Har Ju Rakh Lehu Pat Meri is Today’s Mukhwak from Morning Parkash of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji at Darbar Sahib, Amritsar on dated August 28, 2022. Creator of the Hukam is Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, documented on Ang 703 of SGGS Ji in Raga Jaitsari.

English Translation

Jaitsri Mahala- 9 ( Har Ju Rakh Lehu Pat Meri… )

O True Lord! May You protect our honor (through Your (Grace). 0 Lord, the ocean of Grace! I have sought refuge at Your lotus feet as I have developed the fear of the Yama (god of death) in my heart. (Pause-1)

Completely lost in my efforts as I am a great sinner, a foolish and greedy person, and fed up with my sinful life. I have been burnt within (the body is completely exhausted) with the fear of death in my mind, and this fear cannot be( given up) got rid of (1)

I have been roaming all over the place in the ten directions and making all efforts to attain salvation, but have not realized the Lord’s (knowledge) secrets who abide within my heart. (2)

O Nanak! I do not possess any virtues, like the meditation of the Lord or other penance. So what actions should I perform now (to unite with the Lord)? O Nanak! May the Lord cast away all
my fear complex (of death) as I have sought His support now, having failed in my efforts! (3 – 2)

Poetic Translation

Jaitsari Mahalla IX
O, God! Pray, save my honor.
The fear of Yama is eating into my sinews.
O Lord Bountiful! I come to seek Your shelter.
A congenital sinner, stupid and greedy,
I am sick of committing misdeeds.
I can forget not the terror of death,
It is scorching me indeed. (l)

I’ve made many an effort for salvation,
And searched around the ten directions.
The Immaculate Lord who dwells in my heart,
His secret I have not known. (2)

Merit, meditation, and austerities I’ve none,
What do I do now?
Exhausted, Nanak has sought Your shelter,
From fear let him outgrow. (3) 2

Hukamnama Translation in Hindi

जैतसरी महला ९ ॥ हे परमात्मा ! मेरी लाज बचा लो। मेरे हृदय में मृत्यु का भय निवास कर चुका है। अतः हे कृपानिधि ! मैंने तेरी ही शरण ली है॥१॥ रहाउ॥ में बड़ा पतित, मूर्ख एवं लालची हूँ और पाप कर्म करते-करते अब मैं थक चुका हूँ। मृत्यु का भय मुझे भूलता नहीं और इस चिन्ता ने मेरे शरीर को जलाकर रख दिया है॥१॥

अपनी मुक्ति हेतु मैंने अनेक उपाय किए हैं और दसों दिशाओं में भी भागता रहता हूँ। भगवान मेरे हृदय में ही निवास कर रहा है किन्तु उसके भेद को नहीं जाना॥२॥ हे प्रभु ! मुझ में कोई गुण नहीं और न ही कुछ सिमरन एवं तपस्या की है। फिर तुझे प्रसन्न करने हेतु अब कौन-सा कर्म करूँ ? नानक का कथन है कि हे प्रभु ! अब मैं निराश होकर तेरी शरण में आया हूँ, अतः मुझे अभय दान (मोक्ष दान) प्रदान कीजिए॥३॥२॥

ਅਰਥ: Har Ju Rakh Lehu Pat Meri.. ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! ਮੇਰੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਰੱਖ ਲਵੋ। ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਣ ਲਈ) ਹੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਵਿਕਾਰੀ ਹਾਂ, ਮੂਰਖ ਹਾਂ, ਲਾਲਚੀ ਭੀ ਹਾਂ, ਪਾਪ ਕਰਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਥੱਕ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ। ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਡਰ (ਕਿਸੇ ਵੇਲੇ) ਭੁੱਲਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਇਸ (ਮਰਨ) ਦੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਨੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਸਾੜ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥

(ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਇਸ ਸਹਿਮ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਮੈਂ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੀਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ, ਦਸੀਂ ਪਾਸੀਂ ਉਠ ਉਠ ਕੇ ਦੌੜਿਆ ਹਾਂ। (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ) ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਭੇਤ ਮੈਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਿਆ ॥੨॥

(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ) ਕੋਈ ਗੁਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੋਈ ਜਪ ਤਪ ਨਹੀਂ (ਜੋ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਸਹਿਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾ ਲਏ, ਫਿਰ) ਹੁਣ ਕੇਹੜਾ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਏ? ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀ! (ਆਖੋ-) ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਹੋਰ ਸਾਧਨਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਹਾਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆ ਪਿਆ ਹਾਂ, ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦਾ ਦਾਨ ਦੇਹ ॥੩॥੨॥
