Poetic

Sorath Mahala 5th
I am a sacrifice unto my Guru,
Who has vindicated my honor true.
What I longed, I’ve got,
Ever I meditate on my Lord.
Godmen! There is none other than the Divine Entity,
He is the Lord Almighty. Refrain

The Lord has blessed me with the boon,
Everyone comes to play my tune.
Nanak, the slave, meditated on the Name.
Effaced was all his pain. (2) 5.69

Translation

Sorath Mahala – 5 ( Gur Apne Balihari… )
O, friend! We always offer ourselves as a sacrifice to the Guru, who has saved our honor and enabled us to fulfill our promises and efforts. Thus we are able to fulfill our desires and reap the desired fruits of our efforts, as we are only engaged in reciting the True Name of the Lord. (1)

O, holy saints! There is no other savior except the Lord, who protects our honor. The Lord is the only cause and effect of everything enabling us to function (as per His dictates). (Pause)

O Nanak! The True Master has blessed us with certain powers and favors which have enabled us to control all beings, big and small. All our ills and sufferings have been cast away by reciting the True Name of the Lord. (2-5-69)

गुर अपुने बलिहारी ॥
जिन पूरन पैज सवारी ॥
मन चिंदिआ फल पाया ॥

सोरठि महला ५ ॥ मैं अपने गुरु पर कुर्बान जाता हूँ, जिसने पूर्णतया मेरी लाज-प्रतिष्ठा बरकरार रखी है। मुझे मनोवांछित फल की प्राप्ति हो गई है और मैंने हमेशा ही अपने प्रभु का ध्यान किया है॥ १॥ हे संतो ! ईश्वर के अलावा दूसरा कोई साथी नहीं, चूंकि वह ही करने कराने में समर्थ है॥ रहाउ॥ मेरे प्रभु ने मुझे ऐसा वरदान दिया है कि सभी जीव मेरे वश में कर दिए हैं। दास नानक ने जब प्रभु का नाम-स्मरण किया तो उसके सभी दुःख मिट गए ॥२॥५॥६९॥

ਸੋਰਠਿ ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹੀ ॥
ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਉਤੋਂ ਵਾਰਨੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਪੂਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਰੱਖ ਲਈ ਹੈ ॥
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਚਿੱਤ-ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਫਲ (ਨਾਮ) ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥
ਹੇ ਸਾਧੂਓ! ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ॥
ਉਹ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਹੇਤੂਆਂ ਦਾ ਹੇਤੂ ਹੈ ॥ ਠਹਿਰਾਉ ॥
ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਅਸੀਸ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ,
ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਇਖਤਿਆਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ ॥
ਜਦ ਗੋਲੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ,
ਤਦ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁਖੜੇ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ ॥
