ਇਹ ਜਗਿ ਮੀਤੁ ਨ ਦੇਖਿਓ ਕੋਈ

English Translation

Sorath Mahala 9th ( Eh Jag Meet Na Dekhio Koi )

O, Brother! This world is interesting in its own comforts and pleasures and there is no true friend to be seen around us. No one gives you company while you are in adversity, and all behave like friends so long their interests demand it. (Pause-1) All your relatives, like your wife, friend, and son are losing true love for you but it is all due to Your wealth that they show so much love for you and will desert you as soon as they find you penniless. (1)

What should I tell this foolish mind which has developed an affection for such things? O, my mind! You have forgotten the praises and Greatness of the True Lord, who is the destroyer of the fear complex of the poor (helpless) and is the Master of all. (2)

O, Nanak! This mind remains unstable and in a vicious state just like the tail of a dog that can never be straightened, though I have tried to rectify it with all possible means. O, Lord! I have taken the support of Your True Name and as You have made it Your moral duty to protect Your own principles, so it behooves You to save even the sinners, like me, as per Your principles. (3-9)

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਸ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ (ਤੋੜ ਸਾਥ ਨਿਬਾਹੁਣ ਵਾਲਾ) ਮਿੱਤਰ (ਮੈਂ) ਨਹੀਂ ਵੇਖਿਆ। ਸਾਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੁਖ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਜੁੱਟਾ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ। ਦੁੱਖ ਵਿਚ (ਕੋਈ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ) ਨਾਲ (ਸਾਥੀ) ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਦਾ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ, ਮਿੱਤਰ, ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਰਿਸ਼ਤੇਦਾਰ-ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਧਨ ਨਾਲ (ਹੀ) ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਜਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਕੰਗਾਲ ਵੇਖਿਆ, (ਤਦੋਂ) ਸਾਥ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਨੱਸ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।੧।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਇਸ ਝੱਲੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਕੀਹ ਸਮਝਾਵਾਂ? (ਇਸ ਨੇ) ਇਹਨਾਂ (ਕੱਚੇ ਸਾਥੀਆਂ) ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। (ਜੇਹੜਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਗਰੀਬਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਡਰ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ (ਇਸ ਨੇ) ਭੁਲਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।੨।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੁੱਤੇ ਦੀ ਪੂਛਲ ਸਿੱਧੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ (ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਸ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਲੋਂ ਲਾ-ਪਰਵਾਹੀ ਹਟਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ) ਮੈਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਜਤਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ-ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਆਪਣੇ) ਮੁੱਢ-ਕਦੀਮਾਂ ਦੇ (ਪਿਆਰ ਵਾਲੇ) ਸੁਭਾਵ ਦੀ ਲਾਜ ਰੱਖ (ਮੇਰੀ ਮਦਦ ਕਰ, ਤਾਂ ਹੀ) ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ।੩।੯।

सोरठि महला ९ ॥ इह जग मीत न देखिओ कोई ॥ सगल जगत अपनै सुख लागियो दुख मै संग न होई ॥१॥ रहाउ॥ दारा मीत पूत सनबंधी सगरे धन सिओ लागे ॥ जब ही निरधन देखिओ नर कउ संग छाड सभ भागे ॥१॥ कहौं कहा यिआ मन बौरे कौ इन सिओ नेहु लगायो ॥ दीना नाथ सकल भै भंजन जस ता को बिसरायो ॥२॥ सुआन पूछ ज्यों भयो न सूधौ बहुत जतन मै कीनौ ॥ नानक लाज बिरद की राखहु नाम तुहारउ लीनौ ॥३॥९॥

( Eh Jag Meet Na Dekhio Koi ) सोरठ महला ९ ॥ मैंने इस दुनिया में कोई घनिष्ठ मित्र नहीं देखा है। सारी दुनिया अपने सुख में ही मग्न है और दुःख में कोई किसी का साथी नहीं बनता ॥ १॥ रहाउ॥

पत्नी, मित्र, पुत्र एवं सभी रिश्तेदारों का केवल धन-दौलत से ही लगाव है। जब ही वे मनुष्य को निर्धन होता देखते हैं तो सभी उसका साथ छोड़कर दौड़ जाते हैं।॥ १॥

मैं इस बावले मन को क्या उपदेश दूँ ? इसने तो केवल इन सभी स्वार्थियों से ही स्नेह लगाया हुआ है। इसने उस प्रभु का यश भुला दिया है जो दीनों का स्वामी एवं सभी भय नाश करने वाला है॥ २॥

मैंने अनेक यत्न किए हैं परन्तु यह मन कुत्ते की पूंछ की तरह टेढ़ा ही रहता है और सीधा नहीं होता। नानक का कथन है कि हे ईश्वर ! अपने विरद् की लाज रखो; चूंकि मैं तो तुम्हारा ही नाम-सिमरन करता हूँ॥ ३॥ ६ ॥
