Bin Satgur Seve Bahuta Dukh Laga, Jug Chaare Bharmayi; is Hukamnama from Darbar Sahib, Sri Harmandir Sahib, Amritsar Today on Dated January 1, 2023. Guru Amardas Ji is the writer of Pious Hukam Gurbani and is documented in SGGS Ji at Ang 603 – 604 in Raga Sorath.

English Translation

Sorath Mahala- 3 ( Bin Satgur Seve Bahuta Dukh Laga ) An individual suffers through many afflictions through the Guru’s service and wanders in the cycle of6irths and deaths during the (four) ages.

O, Lord! We are helpless seekers of Truth (poor beggars) while You are the greatest benefactor throughout the ages and enable us to attain Truth through the Guru’s Word. (1)

O, beloved Lord! May You bestow Your Grace on us and unite us with the True Guru-benefactor, thus giving us the support of the Lord’s True Name. (Pause) The persons, who are imbued with the love of the Lord in the state of Equipoise by getting rid of their dual-mindedness and worldly desires, have attained the True Name of the limitless: Lord. They have purified themselves by partaking the nectar of True Name, which (destroys) casts away all our sins. (2)

O, Brother! Let us attain humility through the Guru’s Word( (let us plunge ourselves in meditation of the Guru’s Word) sol that we may enjoy immortality and never have to face out1 (spiritual) death. But there are some fortunate persons only, who are blessed with the nectar of True Name through the Guru’s Word by the Lord’s munificence. (3)

O, Nanak! The Lord has reserved this boon of True Name with Himself and bestows only on those persons, He is pleased with. The persons, who have attained the True Name, are imbued with the love of the True Name) enjoy the eternal bliss and get an honorable place in the Lord’s presence. ( 4-11)

सोरठि महला ३ ॥ बिन सतगुर सेवे बहुता दुख लागा जुग चारे भरमाई ॥ हम दीन तुम जुग जुग दाते सबदे देहि बुझाई ॥१॥ हरि जीउ कृपा करहु तुम प्यारे ॥ सतिगुरु दाता मेल मिलावहु हरि नाम देवहु आधारे ॥ रहाउ ॥ मनसा मार दुबिधा सहज समाणी पाया नाम अपारा ॥ हरि रस चाख मन निरमल होआ किलबिख काटणहारा ॥२॥ सबद मरहु फिर जीवहु सद ही ता फिर मरण न होई ॥ अमृत नाम सदा मन मीठा सबदे पावै कोई ॥३॥ दातै दात रखी हथ अपणै जिस भावै तिस देई ॥ नानक नाम रते सुख पाया दरगह जापहि सेई ॥४॥११॥

सोरठि महला ३॥ गुरु की सेवा किए बिना मनुष्य अत्यन्त दु:खों में ही घिरा रहता है और चहुं युगों में भटकता फिरता है। हे भगवान् ! हम बड़े दीन हैं और तुम तो युगों-युगान्तरों में दाता हो, कृपा करके हमें शब्द का ज्ञान प्रदान करो॥ १॥

हे प्रिय प्रभु ! हम पर तुम कृपा करो। हमें सतगुरु दाता से मिला दो और हरि-नाम का सहारा प्रदान करो॥ रहाउ॥ मैंने अपनी अभिलाषा एवं दुविधा को मिटाकर तथा सहज अवस्था में लीन होकर अनन्त नाम को प्राप्त कर लिया है। पापों का नाश करने वाला हरि रस चख कर मेरा मन निर्मल हो गया है॥ २॥

गुरु के शब्द में मग्न होकर अहम् को मारोगे तो फिर हमेशा ही जीवित रहोगे और फिर दुबारा मृत्यु नहीं होगी। हरिनामामृत सर्वदा ही मन को मीठा लगता है लेकिन गुरु के शब्द द्वारा कोई विरला ही इसे प्राप्त करता है॥ ३॥

उस महान् दाता ने समस्त बख्शिशें अपने हाथ में रखी हुई हैं, वह जिसे चाहता है, उसे देता रहता है। हे नानक ! हरि-नाम में मग्न होकर जिन्होंने सुख प्राप्त किया है, भगवान के दरबार में वे सत्यवादी लगते हैं॥ ४ ॥ ११॥

Punjabi Translation

( Bin Satgur Seve Bahuta Dukh Laga ) ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ) ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਾ, ਅਤੇ (ਮੇਰੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ) ਸਹਾਰਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦੇਹ।ਰਹਾਉ।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਦੁੱਖ ਚੰਬੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਅਸੀ (ਜੀਵ, ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਦੇ) ਮੰਗਤੇ ਹਾਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ (ਸਾਨੂੰ) ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, (ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼।੧।

(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ) ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ (ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਵਾਸਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਕਾ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਾਨਸਕ ਡਾਂਵਾਂ-ਡੋਲ ਹਾਲਤ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਕੱਟਣ ਦੇ ਸਮਰਥ ਹੈ (ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਚੱਖ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੨।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਅਛੋਹ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੋ, ਫਿਰ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਜੀਊਂਦੇ ਰਹੋਗੇ, ਫਿਰ ਕਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਢੁਕੇਗੀ। ਜੇਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੩।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਦਾਤਾਰ ਨੇ (ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਇਹ) ਦਾਤਿ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੇ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ (ਇਥੇ) ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਦਰ-ਮਾਣ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।੪।੧੧।
