Mukhwak: Apne Har Peh Binti Kahiye, Chaar Padarth Anand Mangal Nidh, Sookh Sahaj Sidh Lahiye;

Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji’s religious composition, enshrined on Ang 531 of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji under the Raga Devgandhari, urges us to humbly implore the Almighty for the essential elements of existence – righteousness, prosperity, desire, and liberation – that lead to eternal peace and ultimate realization of the self. Let us invoke the divine blessings and embrace the tranquil path toward spiritual enlightenment.

Translation in English

Devgandhari Mahala – 5 ( Apne Har Peh Binti Kahiye ) O Brother! Let us pray and beseech (solicit) the Lord for granting us the four main pillars of life viz. (Dharam, Arth, Kaam, and Moksha) so as to attain the spiritual bliss and the nine worldly treasures (like mental urges, bliss, and hope) and the eighteen siddhis like peace and tranquillity. (Pause-1)
Let us get hold of the lotus feet of the Lord, relinquishing our egoism and seeking the support of the True Lord, so as to save ourselves from the fire of hell or the heat of such sinful actions in this world or ocean of life. (1)
The Lord, however, looks after and sustains crores of sinners, and thankless wretches, who forget others’ helpful deeds.
O Nanak! Let us inculcate the love of the Lord and seek His support in the heart, who is to bless us with all His benedictions. (2-17)

देवगंधारी महला ५ ॥
अपुने हरि पहि बिनती कहीऐ ॥ चार पदारथ अनद मंगल निध सूख सहज सिध लहीऐ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
मान तिआग हरि चरनी लागउ तिस प्रभ अंचल गहीऐ ॥ आंच न लागै अगन सागर ते सरन सुआमी की अहीऐ ॥१॥
कोट पराध महा अक्रितघन बहुर बहुर प्रभ सहीऐ ॥ करुणा मै पूरन परमेसुर नानक तिस सरनहीऐ ॥२॥१७॥

Meaning in Hindi

हे जीव ! अपने भगवान से ही विनती करनी चाहिए।
विनती करने से चार पदार्थ-धर्म, अर्थ, काम, मोक्ष, आनंद, खुशी का खजाना, सहज सुख एवं सिद्धियाँ मिल जाती हैं।॥ १॥ रहाउ ॥

अपना अहंकार त्याग कर हरि के चरणों में लग जाओ और उस प्रभु का आंचल (आश्रय) जकड़ कर पकड़ लो।
यदि जगत के स्वामी की शरण की कामना की जाए तो माया रूपी अग्नि सागर की ऑच नहीं लगती ॥ १॥

प्रभु इतना दयावान है कि वह महा कृतघ्न लोगों के करोड़ों ही अपराध बार-बार सहन करता है।
हे नानक ! करुणामय पूर्ण परमेश्वर की शरणागत (हमें) जाना चाहिए॥ २ ॥ १७ ॥

ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਕੋਲ ਆਖ!
ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚਾਰ ਵੱਡੀਆਂ ਦਾਤਾਂ (ਧਰਮ, ਅਰਬ, ਕਾਮ, ਮੋਖ) ਆਰਾਮ ਅਤੇ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਦਾ ਖਜਾਨਾ ਬੈਕੁੰਠੀ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਕਰਾਮਾਤੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਗੀਆਂ ॥ ਠਹਿਰਾਉ ॥

ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਵੈ-ਹੰਗਤਾ ਛੱਡ ਦੇ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਢਹਿ ਪਉ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਘੁੱਟ ਕੇ ਪਕੜ ਲੈ ॥
ਅੱਗ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦੀ ਗਰਮੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਹੁੰਚਦੀ, ਜੋ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਓਟ ਦੀ ਚਾਹਨਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥

ਸੁਆਮੀ ਪਰਮ ਨਾਸ਼ੁਕਰਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਹੀ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਾਰੰਬਾਰ ਬਰਦਾਸ਼ਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥
ਨਾਨਕ, ਉਸ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਪੂਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪਨਾਹ ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥
