English Translation

Vadhans Mahala - 3 (E Man Mereya Aawa Gaun Sansar Hai) O, my mind! This world is engrossed in the cycle of births and deaths, but the whole thing is decided based on Truth, with the Lord's verdict as completely True. Some persons, however, through His Grace, are pardoned by the Lord and they are saved from the torture of the cycle of rebirths and are not born again. Finally, the verdict of the Lord is based on Truth and we are saved from the cycle of births and deaths.

The Guru-minded persons thus get honored, as they are always imbued with the love of the True Lord and are immersed in the worship of the Lord in the state of equipoise, being merged with the Lord. O, Nanak! The persons, who have developed a love for the Lord and inculcated His love in their hearts are completely immersed in the Guru's Word. As a result of this, they are devoted to the True Name with love and taken out of the cycle (of Rebirths) in this ocean of life. (1)

O, Brother! The whole attachment to worldly falsehood (Maya) and vicious or sinful actions is the futile work of fools, and such persons are discredited and disgraced, being engrossed in dual-mindedness or other doubtful rituals. The love and affection of the mother and father or other relatives are all due to this (Maya) worldly falsehood, but this love of Maya is due to our false convictions and our earlier actions and nobody has the power to alter it or change it.

But the Lord-Creator enjoys the worldly drama enacted by Him after creating this world. There is no other power on par with the Lord, equal to His Greatness or status. In fact, the self-willed person is blindly following his clever moves, burning in the fire of worldly desires in disgust; but he cannot have peace of mind without the Guru's guidance. O, Nanak! The whole world is completely lost in whims and fancies without the support of True Name, as the whole world is completely enamored and ensnared by the love of worldly falsehood (Maya). (2)

O, Brother! We have sought refuge at the lotus feet of the Lord on seeing this world burning in the fire of worldly desires and love of (Maya) worldly falsehood and depend on His support only. Now we have beseeched and prayed to the Guru to protect us by blessing us with the same honor or greatness as given to the Guru-minded persons, from the burning fire of this world. O, Guru! May I be given Your protection through the Lord's True Name, as there is no other benefactor as great as Yourself?

The persons, engaged in Your service, are really fortunate to be predestined by the Lord's Will, who have realized the Lord-sublime during the various ages. The persons, who follow a life of strict discipline, celibacy, or meditation, without the· Guru's guidance and perform virtuous deeds even have not attained salvation with such efforts. O, Nanak! The person, who has sought the support of the Lord without hesitation, gets the realization of the Lord's vision through the Guru's Word and perceives the glimpse of the Lord. (He gets a complete realization of the Lord's secrets.). (3)

O, Brother! The human being is bestowed with wisdom and intelligence, as provided by the Lord only since he has no wisdom of his own and the all-pervading Lord makes him realize all the secrets of Nature. The Guru-minded persons are satisfied with whatever the Lord has bestowed on them, without appreciating anything else. In fact, they have partaken in the nectar of the True Name of the Lord, and they have realized Truth in the company of the holy saints, by reciting the True Name. O, Nanak! The person, who is bestowed with honor and prestige by the True Guru, has attained self-realization in this life itself and is united with the Lord. The persons, imbued with the love of the Lord's True Name, have attained the Lord's vision in the Lord's presence and such persons are truly learned and full of wisdom (through the Guru's guidance). ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! (E Man Mereya Aawa Gaun Sansar Hai) ਜਗਤ (ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਜੀਵ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ (ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਲਿਆਉਂਦਾ) ਹੈ, ਆਖ਼ਰ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ (ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਦਾ) ਖ਼ਾਤਮਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਫੇਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਣਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ। ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਖ਼ਾਤਮਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ। ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ, ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਖ਼ਾਤਮਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਫੇਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਣਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ।੧।

ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਨਿਰਾ-ਪੁਰਾ ਪਾਗਲ-ਪਨ ਹੈ (ਜੋ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਬੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਦੁਨੀਆ ਇਸ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ। (ਇਹ ਮੇਰੀ) ਮਾਂ (ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਮੇਰਾ) ਪਿਉ (ਹੈ ਇਹ ਮੇਰੀ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਮੇਰਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਹੈ-ਇਹ ਭੀ) ਨਿਰਾ ਮੋਹ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਉਲਝੀ ਪਈ ਹੈ। ਪੂਰਬਲੇ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ (ਲੁਕਾਈ ਸੰਬੰਧੀਆਂ ਦੇ) ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਆਪਣੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਸਿਆਣਪ-ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਨਾਲ ਪੂਰਬਲੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਿਟਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।

ਜਿਸ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਰਚ ਕੇ (ਤਮਾਸ਼ਾ) ਵੇਖ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਰਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਰੋਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ। ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੋ ਕੇ (ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ) ਸੜ ਸੜ ਕੇ ਦੁੱਖੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦੀ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।੨।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੂੰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਸੜਦਾ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ (ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਦੌੜ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਜਾ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਉਹ ਸੜਨੋਂ ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ) । ਮੈਂ (ਭੀ) ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਅੱਗੇ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ-ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੜਨ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈ, ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਇਹ) ਵਡਿਆਈ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼। ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼। ਇਹ ਦਾਤਿ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਣ ਦੀ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਜੇਡਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੁਗ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ ਹੈ।

(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਜਤ ਸਤ ਸੰਜਮ (ਆਦਿਕ) ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਉੱਦਮ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) , ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਜਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸਮਝਣ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ।੩।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜੇਹੜੀ ਅਕਲ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਉਹੀ ਮਤਿ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਮਤਿ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਮਤਿ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗ੍ਰਹਿਣ) ਨਹੀਂ (ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ) ।

ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ) ਅੰਦਰ ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈਂ। (ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ) ਅਕਲ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ (ਤੇਰੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਅਕਲ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ (ਅਕਲ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ) ਪਸੰਦ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸਕਦੀ। (ਤਾਂਹੀਏ, ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਵਾਦ ਚੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਅਡੋਲ ਚਿੱਤ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਉਹ (ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ) ਅਕਲ ਪਰਵਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।੪।੬।

वडहंस महला ३ ॥ (E Man Mereya Aawa Gaun Sansar Hai)

हे मेरे मन ! यह दुनिया आवागमन अर्थात् जन्म-मरण का चक्र ही है, अन्ततः इस आवागमन से मुक्ति सच्चे परमेश्वर के नाम से ही मिलती है। जब सच्चा परमेश्वर स्वयं क्षमा कर देता है तो मनुष्य का दोबारा इहलोक में जन्म-मरण का चक्र नहीं पड़ता। वह दोबारा जन्म-मरण के चक्र में नहीं आता और अन्ततः सत्यनाम द्वारा मोक्ष मिल जाता है एवं गुरु के माध्यम से प्रशंसा प्राप्त करता है।

जो मनुष्य सच्चे परमेश्वर के रंग में लीन हो जाते हैं, वे सहज अवस्था में मस्त रहते हैं और सहज ही सत्य में समा जाते हैं। सच्चा परमेश्वर उसके मन को अच्छा लगता है और सत्य ही उसके भीतर निवास करता है और शब्द से रंग कर वह अंत में मुक्ति प्राप्त कर लेता है। हे नानक ! जो परमात्मा के नाम में रंगे हुए हैं, वह सत्य में ही समा जाते हैं और दोबारा भवसागर के चक्र में नहीं पड़ते॥ १॥

माया का मोह केवल पागलपन ही है, चूंकि द्वैतभाव के कारण मनुष्य नष्ट हो जाता है। माता-पिता का रिश्ता भी निरा मोह ही है और इस मोह में सारी दुनिया उलझी हुई है। पूर्व जन्म में किए कर्मों के फलस्वरूप ही दुनिया मोह में उलझी हुई है। (परमात्मा के अतिरिक्त) कोई भी कर्मो को मिटा नहीं सकता। जिस परमेश्वर ने सृष्टि रचना की है, वही इसे रचकर देख रहा है और उस जैसा महान् दूसरा कोई नहीं। ज्ञानहीन मनमुख प्राणी जल-जल कर नष्ट हो जाता है और शब्द के बिना उसे शांति नहीं मिलती। हे नानक ! भगवान के नाम से विहीन सभी भटके हुए हैं और माया के मोह ने उन्हें नष्ट कर दिया है॥ २॥

इस जगत को मोह-माया में जलता देखकर मैं भागकर भगवान की शरण में आया हूँ। मैं अपने पूर्ण गुरु के समक्ष प्रार्थना करता हूँ कि मेरी रक्षा करो एवं मुझे नाम की बड़ाई प्रदान करें। मेरे गुरुदेव मुझे अपनी शरण में रखें और हरि-नाम की बड़ाई प्रदान करें, तुझ जैसा अन्य कोई दाता नहीं। वे बड़े भाग्यशाली हैं, जो तेरी सेवा करते हैं और युग-युगान्तरों में वह एक ईश्वर को ही जानते हैं। मनुष्य ब्रह्मचार्य, सत्य, संयम एवं कर्मकाण्ड करता है परन्तु गुरु के बिना उसकी गति नहीं होती। हे नानक ! जो जाकर भगवान की शरण में आते हैं, उन्हें वह शब्द की सूझ प्रदान करता है॥ ३॥

हरि जैसी सुमति प्रदान करता है, वैसे ही मनुष्य के भीतर उत्पन्न होती है और शेष कोई सुमति उत्पन्न नहीं होती। हे हरि ! अन्तर्मन में एवं बाहर तुम ही मौजूद हो और इस बात की सूझ भी तुम स्वयं ही प्रदान करते हो। जिसे तुम यह सूझ प्रदान करते हो, वह किसी अन्य से प्रेम नहीं करता और गुरु के माध्यम से वह हरि-रस को चखता है। परमात्मा के सच्चे दरबार में सर्वदा सत्य ही रहता है। और सच्चे शब्द का वह प्रेमपूर्वक स्तुतिगान करता है। वह अपने हृदय में अपना यथार्थ घर प्राप्त कर लेता है और सतगुरु उसे मान-सम्मान प्रदान करता है। हे नानक ! जो प्राणी परमेश्वर के नाम में लीन रहते हैं, वे सच्चे दरबार को प्राप्त कर लेते हैं और सच्चे प्रभु के सन्मुख उनकी मति स्वीकृत हो जाती है॥ ४॥ ६॥
