History of Saka Nankana Sahib
Shaheedi Saka Nankana Sahib is an important event in the history of the Sikh faith. It refers to the massacre at Gurdwara Janam Asthan, also known as Nankana Sahib, in the city of Nankana Sahib, Pakistan. The Gurdwara is one of the holiest sites in Sikhism as it is the birthplace of the first Sikh guru, Guru Nanak Dev.
In February 1921, during the British colonial rule of India, a peaceful protest was organized by the Sikh community at Gurdwara Janam Asthan. The protest was against the removal of a gurdwara manager who was popular among the local Sikhs. The British authorities, who were known for their oppressive policies towards Indian people, viewed the protest as a threat to their rule and ordered their soldiers to open fire on the unarmed protestors.
As a result of the unprovoked attack, over 150 Sikhs were killed and hundreds were injured. The incident was a tragic loss for the Sikh community, as it resulted in the deaths of many innocent people who were peacefully protesting for their rights.
The Shaheedi Saka Nankana Sahib had a profound impact on the Sikh community, as it highlighted the need for greater unity and solidarity in the face of oppression. The event is remembered as a sacrifice of the Sikh martyrs who laid down their lives for the principles of freedom, justice, and equality.
To commemorate the Shaheedi Saka Nankana Sahib, Sikhs around the world hold religious gatherings and prayer services. The event is also an occasion for Sikhs to reflect on the history of their community and to honor the sacrifices made by their forefathers.
Despite the tragic incident, the Gurdwara Janam Asthan remains a place of worship and pilgrimage for Sikhs. The gurdwara has been restored to its former glory and is a testament to the resilience and perseverance of the Sikh community.
