The Brave Young Warrior Who Fought for the Faith

Let me share a tale of a young warrior named Sahibzada Jujhar Singh, the second son of Guru Gobind Singh, born to Mata Jito ji in Anandpur. As a child, Jujhar, like his elder brother Ajit Singh, began training in the art of Gatka, the fighting skills, while also studying religious texts. At the age of eight, Jujhar received holy Amrit at the Khalsa initiation, and by the time he was fifteen, he had become a fearless and experienced warrior.

In December 1705, when Anandpur was under siege, Jujhar Singh and a group of Sikhs successfully made their way through the flooded Sarsa rivulet on horseback and reached Chamkaur. Jujhar, alongside his fellow warriors, defended the fortified house where his father, Guru Gobind Singh, and his fellow Sikhs had taken shelter. As they ran out of ammunition, they engaged in hand-to-hand combat, with Jujhar leading the last sally on 7 December 1705, where he fought fiercely and lost his life.

Though he was just fourteen years old when he gave his life, Jujhar’s bravery and sacrifice for his faith will never be forgotten. The Gurdwara Katalgarh Sahib in Chamkaur Sahib stands today as a reminder of his heroism.
