Sant Ravidas

Sant Ravidas was born on Magha Purnima, 1433 Samvat, in Mandur village near Varanasi. He had many names: Ravidas, Raidas, Radas, Rudradas, Saidas, Rayidas, Rohidas, Ruhdas, Ramadas, Ramdas, Haridas. Of these, Ravidas & Raidas appear in his compositions. From a young age, he was drawn to devotion and sages. As an adult, he worked as a tanner, yet found solace in singing Lord’s hymns while knotting shoes.vgfg

ਸੰਤ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਵਾਰਾਣਸੀ ਨੇੜੇ ਮੰਡੂਰ ਨਾਮਕ ਪਿੰਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੰਮਤ 1433 ਨੂੰ ਮਾਘ ਪੂਰਨਿਮਾ ਦਾ ਦਿਨ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਨਾਮ ਹਨ- ਰਵਿਦਾਸ, ਰਾਇਦਾਸ, ਰਾਦਾਸ, ਰੁਦਰਦਾਸ, ਸੈਦਾਸ, ਰਾਇਦਾਸ, ਰੋਹੀਦਾਸ, ਰੋਹੀਦਾਸ, ਰੁਹਿਦਾਸ, ਰਾਮਦਾਸ, ਰਾਮਦਾਸ, ਹਰੀਦਾਸ। ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਅਤੇ ਰੈਦਾਸ ਦੋ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਨਾਮ ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਆਪਜੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਰਚਨਾਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਉਪਲਬਧ ਹਨ।
