Guru Angad Dev Gurgaddi Purab

Guru Angad Dev Ji Gurgaddi Diwas 2022, on September 15th, is to Remember the passing of Guruship to the 2nd Sikh Guru. Bhai Lehna Ji was the closest devotee of Satguru Nanak Dev Ji and after putting him under a lot of testing, Nanak passed his spiritual light to Bhai Lehna and made him his own Ang with the name Angad.

Guru-gaddi to Angad

Guru Nanak had established ‘Guru Seat’ at Kartarpur during his last days. A devotee of Guru Bhai Lehna used to live in Nagay’s Saraay near Ferozepur, once came to Kartarpur to hear Nanak, and never went back. He became the most devoted Sikh of the Guru Nanak. Bhai Lehna could do anything to honor the command of Guru Nanak. He served Guru Nanak till his last moment.

In consideration of his spirit of sacrifice Guru Nanak declared him to be the ‘Heir to the Guru Seat’. Before relinquishing his mortal body Guru handed over the seat to Bhai Lehna in the presence of his faithful Gursikhs.

The actual event of Gurgaddi of Guru Angad Dev Ji occurred on 6 October 1539 CE, Bikrami 1596 Bikrami Assu Vadi Panchami Shraadh, a few days before the Ascension of Satguru Nanak Dev Ji.

ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਹਜ ਸਾਰਿ ਜਾਗੀਲੇ ਗੁਰ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ਨਿੰਮਰੀ ਭੂਤ ਸਦੀਵ ਪਰਮ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥
ਕਹੁ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਕਲਸਹਾਰ ਸਪਤ ਦੀਪ ਮਝਾਰ ਲਹਣਾ ਜਗਤ੍ਰ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਰਸਿ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥੨॥

The Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, is celestial and sublime; whoever remains awake and aware, contemplating the Guru, embodies humility, and is imbued forever with the Supreme Love of the Lord. O Kalashaar (Bhatt Kalashaar), chants the Praises of Lehnaa throughout the seven continents; He met with the Lord and became Guru of the World.
