Guru Amar Das Gurgaddi Divas
Gurgaddi Gurpurab Guru Amardas Ji 2023 marks a significant event in the history of Sikhs as it commemorates the passing of Gurgaddi to Guru Amar Das Ji, who was the third spiritual leader of the Sikh community. At the age of 73, he was appointed as the Guru, which is the highest among all the ten Gurus.
This year, on 22nd March 2023, the Sikh community will celebrate the 471st anniversary of Guru Amar Das Ji Gurgaddi Divas Gurpurab, remembering his contributions and teachings that continue to inspire and guide them today. It is a time of reverence and reflection for all Sikhs around the world, as they pay tribute to their beloved Guru and seek to deepen their understanding and practice of his teachings.

Hearing once the Word of the Guru being recited, Amar Dass expressed a desire to see the Guru and when he did so, he offered himself body and soul to the service of his Master. He would fetch water for the Guru from the nearby river each morning in spite of his old age and served him so well that Guru Angad, leaving out his sons, appointed him to be his successor.
Babu Firozdin Sharf writes in his poem “ਨਿਥਾਵਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਥਾਂ”
ਨਿਥਾਵਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਥਾਂ
ਆਦਰ ਚਾਦਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਬਾਣਾ,
ਤਾਣ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਿਤਾਣਾ ।
ਮਾਨ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਆਪ ਨਿਮਾਣਾ,
ਥਿੜਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਉਹ ਥਹੁ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ।
ਗਾਗਰ ਮੋਢੇ ਚਾਵਣ ਵਾਲਾ,
ਗੁਰ ਲਈ ਪਾਣੀ ਲਿਆਵਣ ਵਾਲਾ ।
ਠੇਡੇ ਠੋਕਰ ਖਾਵਣ ਵਾਲਾ,
ਸੌ ਸੌ ਸ਼ੁਕਰ ਬਜਾਵਣ ਵਾਲਾ ।
ਦਾਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਅਮਰ ਇਲਾਹੀ,
ਸਿੱਖ ਪੰਥ ਦੀ ਤੀਜੀ ਸ਼ਾਹੀ ।
ਚੰਦ ਜ਼ਿਮੀਂ ਦਾ ਅਰਸ਼ੀ ਮਾਹੀ,
ਧੋਵਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਕੁਫ਼ਰ ਸਿਆਹੀ ।
ਗੁਰ-ਸੇਵਾ ਦਾ ਪੁਤਲਾ ਨਿਆਰਾ,
ਆਦਰ ਦਾ ਓਹ ਪਾਕ ਨਜ਼ਾਰਾ ।
ਬੇ-ਓਟਾਂ ਦੀ ਓਟ ਪਿਆਰਾ,
ਝਿਲਮਿਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਅਰਸ਼ੀ ਤਾਰਾ ।
ਪੱਥਰ ਚਿੱਤ ਪਹਾੜਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ,
ਮੂੰਹ ਦੇ ਗੋਰੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਕਾਲੇ ।
ਵਾਂਗ ਮੋਮ ਦੇ ਫੜ ਫੜ ਢਾਲੇ,
ਅਮਰ ਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਅਣਿਆਲੇ ।
ਸੂਰਜ ਵਾਂਙੂ ਕਿਰਨਾਂ ਪਾਈਆਂ,
ਭਗਤੀ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਮੇਖਾਂ ਲਾਈਆਂ ।
ਸੱਭੇ ਸਖੀਆਂ ਵੇਖਣ ਆਈਆਂ,
ਵੇਖ ਤਪੱਸਿਆ ਦੇਣ ਦੁਹਾਈਆਂ ।
ਹੁਸਨ ਹਕੀਕੀ ਇਸ਼ਕ ਮਜਾਜ਼ੀ,
ਸਿਰ ਧੜ ਵਾਲੀ ਲੱਗੀ ਬਾਜ਼ੀ ।
ਤੋਬਾ ਕੂਕਣ ਪੰਡਤ ਕਾਜ਼ੀ,
ਪਰ ਇਹ ਆਸ਼ਕ ਰਾਜ਼ੀ ਬਾਜ਼ੀ ।
ਭਗਤੀ ਵਾਲਾ ਚੰਦ ਚੜ੍ਹਾ ਕੇ,
ਬੇ ਅਦਬਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਦਬ ਸਿਖਾ ਕੇ ।
ਰਾਹ ਸੇਵਾ ਦੇ ਸੱਭ ਦਿਖਾ ਕੇ,
ਡੁੱਬੇ ਬੇੜੇ ਬੰਨੇ ਲਾ ਕੇ ।
ਸਿੱਖੀ ਪੰਥ ਚਲਾਵਣ ਆਇਆ,
ਨੂਰੀ ਬੂਟੇ ਲਾਵਣ ਆਇਆ ।
