Gurpurab commemorates the day of Birth, Ascension, or Gurgaddi of 10 Gurus and Guru Granth Sahib. Most Popular Gurpurabs are Parkash Gurpurab of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji and Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

Gurpurabs are Important days for Sikhs and communities living in Punjab. People celebrate these days in Gurudwaras, Langars are organized at many places.

Parkash Gurpurabs are celebrated to memorize the Birthdays of 10 Sikh Gurus and the First Parkash of Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

Ascension Gurpurabs or Joti Jot Divas are the days when Gurus had to shred their physical elements and return to the union of Almighty Waheguru. There is no Ascension day or Joti Joti Gurpurab of Guru Granth Sahib as this is Jugo Jug Atal Jot of All Bhagats and Gurus and words of God.

The third kind of Gurpurabs are celebrated to memorize the Gurta Gaddi Divas of Gurus. Guru Nanak Sahib Ji is known to have Gurgaddi from his birth, later on, the days commemorate when one Guru passed his divine light to the next spiritual preceptor.
